Aromatherapy Massage
One of the most popular ways to have a massage is to use a blend of essential oils within the treatment. The essential oils are chosen to suit the particular issues or symptoms a client has.
An Aromatherapy massage treatment can bring many benefits, including:
- Promotes feelings of calm and wellbeing. Helps to soothe the mind
- Helpful in lifting moods to reduce nervous tension and feelings of depression
- Helps to increase energy levels and stimulates the body’s own immune system
- Enhancing Lymphatic drainage helping to reduce fluid retention and Oedema.
Each oil has specific and unique benefits. They are natural essences extracted from flowers, plants, leaves, woods, herbs, fruits and gums. The essential oils are blended with carrier oils that have therapeutic properties of their own.

Some of the most popular and well-known oils include:
Lavender one of the most versatile oil with analgesic, antiseptic and antibiotic properties which is useful for relieving muscular pains and headaches. It’s valuable for many skin conditions and as an aid to sleep and stress reduction.
Roman Chamomile has many similar properties to Lavender and is also soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory. It’s particularly helpful for stress and anxiety conditions.
Frankincense used by the Egyptians as an aid to skin care and beneficial for older skins. It has a calming effect on the emotions and the ability to slow down breathing.
After a personal consultation, a blend of up to three essential oils are chosen for their therapeutic and medicinal properties and then mixed with a number of carrier oils. For anyone having an Aromatherapy massage, it is recommended that you shower or bath beforehand as the oils should be kept on overnight. The oils are beneficial to the skin and the scent of the oils can have a powerful effect on the emotions, whilst the oil’s chemistry affects the body. After the massage you should always avoid strong sunlight, sunbathing, saunas and sun beds as some citrus oils can make the skin more sensitive to the sun’s rays and you will burn more easily.
A typical Aromatherapy treatment is one hour or 90 minutes for a full body treatment.
