Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage uses volcanic basalt stones known for both heat and cold retention properties.  The stones are heated and then used to massage the body, creating a sensation of comfort and warmth.  The direct heat relaxes the muscles allowing for a deeper and more intense massage. Stone therapy works not only on a physical level as the energies from the stones promote a meditative state and enables the client to relax in the deepest state possible.

Aromatherapy can also be incorporated in Hot Stone massage therapy as the heat aids greater penetration of the oils.

What is Hot Stone massage good for?

  • Helps increase circulation as the treatment increases red and white blood cells raising the internal body temperature and increasing metabolism between 10 to 15%.  This helps with detoxification and stimulation of blood and lymph.
  • Relaxes the body as Hot stone massage has a sedative effect on the nervous system.
  • Helps muscular aches and pains – targets key areas in the body allowing for a deeper massage.

To get the full benefit of the treatment it is advised to rest and not do anything energetic for a couple of hours afterwards.  Because oil is used as a medium, you should avoid direct sunlight, saunas and sunbeds after your treatment.

A typical Hot Stone massage treatment is one hour or 90 minutes for a full body treatment.
